What Is Slag?
Slag, also called dross, is molten metal that forms on parts created with thermal cutting processes, such as oxy-fuel, flame and plasma cutting. Slag can reduce the look and quality of a welded component, so manufacturers need to use dross removal processes to improve the final product. However, slag removal is often a time-consuming and difficult process.
Timesavers developed Hammerhead technology to solve this problem.
Hammerhead and Slag Removal
Our Hammerhead technology is purpose-built for heavy slag removal. The hammers are a series of steel pins arranged in staggering rows in vulcanized rubber. This arrangement ensures all machined parts are hit by at least one steel pin and helps to remove heavy burrs in addition to slag.
This solution hammers parts with counterclockwise movement up to 22 m p/secs/min to deliver optimal deslagging.
Our Heavy Slag Removal Machines Will Improve Your Production Lines
With our heavy slag removal machines, manufacturers can remove slag more efficiently and cost-effectively than with manual chipping. Since slag is a type of production waste, removing it is paramount for your final components. Using our machines lets you remove heavy slag and burrs in a single pass and enjoy the benefits of slag-free surfaces:
- Professional look: Slag does not add any strength or structural value to metal pieces, and it also does not look attractive or professional. When slag is left behind, consumers may perceive your products as lower quality. By using our Hammerhead technology for efficient slag removal, you can ensure every component looks clean and polished.
- Smooth coatings: Metal slag can make applying a smooth layer of adhesive coating difficult. With this thermal cutting waste taken care of, your production line will continue to move efficiently through the coating stage.
Cutting-Edge Heavy Slag Removal Machines
Timesavers offers two machines for slag removal:
- 42 Series RB: Our 42 Series RB dry machine is an all-in-one system for deburring, finishing, edge rounding, oxide removal and slag removal. When you need your products to have a premium look, the 42 Series RB is the right choice. With customizable features, this machine can meet the needs of your unique applications.
- Slag grinders: We designed slag grinders for removing heavy dross created by plasma tables. Timesavers provides one- and two-shift models for your production demands.
